The first Indian woman to fight in the UFC has a debut date.
Puja "The Cyclone" Tomar will fight Rayanne dos Santos at UFC Fight Night on June 8th, Tomar's management First Round announced today on Instagram. The post indicates that the event will be held at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
News of Tomar's UFC signing came last October, and since then, word on a debut timeframe has been silent. Training out of Soma Fight in Bali, Indonesia, Tomar has long been one of the top Indian MMA prospects. Early on in her MMA career, she fought in the ranks of ONE Championship against top fighters like Stamp Fairtex, Jihin Radzuan, and Tiffany Teo.
Before joining the leader in MMA, Puja Tomar (8-4) held the Matrix Fight Night strawweight championship and defended the belt once. Four straight wins and three consecutive TKO finishes earned Tomar the call from the UFC.
Rayanne dos Santos (14-7), a former Invicta FC atomweight champion, has already made her UFC debut. She fought to a split decision against fellow Brazilian Talita Alencar last December, suffering her first defeat in four fights.
UFC Fight Night, aka "UFC Vegas 92" does not yet have a main event and is likely to air on ESPN+ in the US.
