The Indonesian island of Bali continues to grow as a hub for Asian MMA, and Canggu Fight Night 31 on July 21st will showcase the next generation of Asian fighters.
Burmese bantamweight Punnya Sai (5-0) takes center stage at the event, taking on Indian Yadwinder Singh (6-2) in the main event. A promotion official informed MMA Ecosystem of the main event and fight card.
Sai, a product of Soma Fight, may be the brightest prospect out of Myanmar at the moment. At age twenty-five, he's already fought four times for ONE Warrior Series before a four-and-a-half year hiatus. Last March saw his triumphant return to MMA, finishing Indian veteran Kushal Vyas with a body kick in the first round at Canggu Fight Night 29.
Yadwinder is coming back from his own leave of absence from mixed martial arts. The thirty year old bantamweight hasn't competed since a unanimous decision win for Indian promotion Kumite 1 League. He's also fought for Chinese promotion Rebel FC and even twice for the former iteration of the PFL, World Series of Fighting (WSOF). His only two losses come to top competition- ONE's Chen Rui and current MFN bantamweight champion Uloomi Karim.
There's also plenty of Indonesian talent to go around on Canggu Fight Night 31. The co-main feature pits two of them against each other, as Lions' MMA representative Frans Lincol Sormin (4-2) meets Bali MMA's Galih Tornado (9-7). Despite his near-even record, Tornado has won his last six fights.
Another highlight of the card is 5-0 Filipino Elorde Sandigon, who fights India's Sohail Khan (2-0) at flyweight. Sandigon has fought three times in the past eight months, most recently at KSK MMA Festival in April.
